how i turned a mistake…

I made about 10 of my Build Your Own Nigiri Kitty plushies for an upcoming market and realized that 2 of them were too short! Has something like this ever happened to you?

into a “happy accident!”

Since I could not sell them with my other nigiri kitties, I decided, with fall just around the corner, I would make cute little scarecrow hats for them. Now, I want to make 10 more of these kitties with scarecrow hats 😭😭😭.

My FREE video short video tutorial is available below.

Happy Crocheting!

Level: Beginner

Finished Dimensions:

  • 3” x 3” (actual dimensions may differ based on thickness of yarn used).

Gauge: Not important.

Recommended Supplies For Fishy Fidget Pattern

Abbreviations Used:

  • C2: Color 2

  • FPSC = Front Post Single Crochet

  • FO = Fasten off

  • MC = Main Color

  • MR = Magic Ring

  • SC = Single Crochet

  • SCINC = Single Crochet increase

  • ST or STS = Stitch or Stitches

Pattern Notes:

  • The hat pattern is worked in continuous rounds, do not join rounds, beginning from the top to bottom of hat.

    • The patch is worked in rows.

  • Right Side Facing Out: The side in which the beginning yarn tail is not coming out. If right handed, you will be working counter-clockwise.

  • This pattern uses the yarn under method, which is typical for amigurumi patterns because it produces a tighter finish compared to yarn over.

  • A comma indicates to work in the next stitch.

  • A "x#" indicates to work given stitch in each of the next “x” number of stitches; For example: “SC x5” = Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.

Special Stitch Reference:

Front Post Single Crochet (FPSC):

  1. Insert hook through front of your work into space before the post of the indicated ST.

  2. Push hook behind the post through the space on the other side of post.

  3. YO, pull up loop to same height as top ST.

  4. YO, pull through all loop, FPSC complete.
