Daisy Car Vent Air Freshener/Decor Crochet Pattern
My Daisy Car Vent Air Freshener crochet pattern is extremely beginner friendly and works up in a 20 minutes (minus the curing time). I’ve seen those adorable macrame daisy car clips but wanted to design a crochet version (since I DO NOT do macrame). I used some wooden beads I already had on hand and I think this would work with wooden beads 15mm or larger; This pattern is easily customizable and you can make it with or without the leaf. You can add the diffuser disc slot and use with your favorite essential oil as an air freshener for your car or just use the car vent clip if you’d like to use it a car decor. Pattern Notes:
There are 2 versions that can be made with this pattern:
Slot Head version:
This version has a slot head for a diffuser pad. The combination of the the diffuser pad and wooden bead produces a stronger and longer lasting aroma when used with the essential oil.
The use of sand paper on the plastic slot head is optional but recommended to provide better adhesion.
Vent Clip Only version:
Essential oil drops may be added to the wooden bead; this will produce a softer aroma; or this version may be used for decor only.
Yarn Used for Daisy: This pattern can be used with either light weight #3 or medium weight #4 yarn. Here are some things to consider when selecting a yarn type for this pattern:
Cotton yarn vs acrylic yarn: Either yarn would work with this pattern, however, using 100% acrylic yarn or a softer cotton yarn (see yarn recommendations under “Supplies”) will produce a puffier daisy. I have tried this pattern with Lily Sugar N Cream, however, the daisy was not as “puffy” as the ones pictured but feel free to use which ever yarn you have on hand and at your discretion. See “Yarn Examples” on next page.
Using light weight #3 yarn will produce a slightly smaller daisy.
This pattern is worked beginning with the daisy. The wooden bead is then sewn to the center of the flower.
A comma indicates to work in the next stitch.
A "x#" indicates to work given stitch in each of the next “x” number of stitches; For example: “SC x5” = Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.
Modifications: The pattern may be worked with or without the “leaf.”
Gauge is not important with this pattern.
Other Ideas for this pattern: Instead of using this daisy as a car vent clip, try out these other ideas:
Glue a pin to the back of the felt circle to use as cute pin for embellishing your hats, bags, or back packs!

*Insert hook into ST (or ring), YO, pull up a loop, YO, insert hook into ST (or ring).* Repeat from * to * x9, there will be 20 loops on the hook - see image below. YO, pull through all 20 loops. CH1 to close PS.
Magic Ring: Here is a quick video tutorial below:
Instructions:
Make Daisy:
With MC work a slip knot leaving short tail for securing bead, then CH10 - image A. Insert hook into the first CH to form a circle and CH2 - image A.2
YO, insert hook into circle to begin PS then CH3.
*SL ST in circle + CH3 - image B. PS in circle + CH3*
Repeat step 3 x4 to complete a total of 5 petals.
SL ST in circle and use hook to extend loop. FO MC leaving a long tail for sewing.
Insert yarn tail end into loop, then pull tail end to tighten loop.
Thread yarn tail end onto darning needle and insert needle into wooden bead. Sew bead to the center of flower, working through PS’s on opposite ends of bead holes until bead is secured in place. Note: Move PS’s around, as needed, to ensure there are no noticeable gaps around perimeter of bead and PS’s.
Fasten by tying both the beginning yarn tail and yarn tail end together with a double knot. Weave in any loose ends. If needed, move the visible CHs towards bottom of petals. You may proceed to next section to work a leaf or skip to Assembly & Finish.
Optional - Make Leaf:
With green yarn, CH 8.
Turn foundation CH so that the back hump of CHs are facing up then TR in hump of 3rd CH from hook. Continue working in the back hump across foundation CH and work a DC x2, HDC x2, then SC in back hump of last CH + CH2.
You will now be working on the opposite side of the foundation CH. SC in BLO of first CH (on opposite side of foundation CH), then HDC x2, DC x2, TR + CH3.
Insert hook into the first CH (of CH3) then FO leaving along tail for sewing.
With the prominent center line of leaf facing up and tip facing out, sew leaf to the back of the daisy, over the wooden bead. FO and weave ends.
Assembly & Finish (proceed to desired version):
Slot Head Version (Air Freshener)
Take your felt sheet cut out a circle that is just big enough to cover the back center of daisy (without being visible from front of flower).
Apply the E600 glue to the felt circle, making sure to get the edges. Attach circle to the back of flower and apply pressure to ensure there are no gaps between the felt and flower.
Optional: You may allow glue to cure for 24 hours before proceeding to step 2, however, I have skipped this step with positive results. If you decide to skip the curing, it is recommended to work gently in step 3 to avoid moving the felt circle from it’s place.
Attach the slot head or car vent clip:
Slot Head Version:
Optional: It is recommended to use your sand paper to gently sand the flat part of the slot head to give it more texture; this will help with adhesion.
Apply E600 glue to slot head, making sure to get the sides then attach to the back of felt circle.
It is important to allow glue to cure for 24 hours before attaching the car vent clip and diffuser pad for use.
Car Vent Clip Only (for decor only):
Take your felt sheet cut out a circle that is just big enough to cover the back center of daisy (without being visible from front of flower).
Use scissors to cut a 2 slits (just enough to slide clip through center of the felt circle).
Apply the E600 glue to the tip of the vent clip and place in the center of the back of daisy.
Apply the E600 glue to the back of daisy, making sure to get the edges. Slide “X” that you made step 2 over the back of the vent clip and onto the the back of daisy. Gently rub the circle to remove any air pockets and to make sure it adheres to flower.
All glue to dry for 24 hours before use.
